Sunday 10th Dec, Race 5- Pursuit Race
It’s all good for this Sunday’s race and a pursuit start. The bad news is that ‘time flies’. We’re already at the last race for 2023; its been a significant year for the CYAA.
The group allocations are based on the expectation that the race duration is 120min over a 6.0nm course with a 10-15kt wind. How all this works out in practice will be a test of your ever perceptive handicapper.
The warning signal for group one is scheduled for 9:55am. The warning signal for subsequent groups will be 5 minutes before the allocated start time. Note this race has no division allocations. If the start times are analysed you’ll see they are division based.
Sailing Instructions and Course Descriptions
Racing will be conducted in the waters of Port Phillip in the vicinity of Kerferd Road Pier. The course will utilise fixed floating marks.
The committee boat will be Royals Two. The working VHF channel for the race is channel 72. The race will be conducted by the RYCV with CYAA reps Colin Orchard and the handicapper assisting. Royals two is a white, twin hull boat with twin outboards. RYCV tend to put a crowding buoy out to protect their engines from overly eager skippers. All going well you can expect to see the results posted not long after the last boat “breasts the line”.
Other club racing – Sunday
Expect some company! The RYCV will be conducting a Tripe and Onions pursuit-start event starting 11:00am. They’ll be using RMYS – C and D marks. We won’t be using these marks but fleet crossings are possible. I know we’re all good chaps and know the RRS backwards so be mindful and do the right thing. No “close calls” is the word here.
CYAA membership status. Am I financial?
The CYAA Treasurer reports that our current membership subscription numbers are down for this year. The CYAA financial year commenced on July 1. It’s only $85 for boat owners and $55.00 for crew and supporters. If you are unsure of your status send an email to:

It’s your association. A strong membership base in essential for us to be able to continue to promote and provide classic yacht happenings and events. We would love to see all skippers encourage their crew to join the association. Get on-board!
Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong, March 2024. We’d love some help!
The Wooden Boat Festival of Geelong is back in March, 2024. Whilst not a CYAA event, we will have a festival booth presence to promote classic yacht sailing and the association.
Whilst we always have a sizeable CYAA on-water presence, we are looking for non-sailing members to man the booth. Hands up if you can help. All that’s needed is a sparkling personality and a modicum of passion for what we do. You might actually have some fun as well. Contact us to get involved.
