The CYAA is once again happy to announce the ongoing support of the Joe White Bequest to the 2026 Cup Regatta as well as the production of the magnificent table top book being prepared that will highlight the beautiful Classic Yachts currently on the CYAA register. This book will be a collectors item as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of the formation of the CYAA.
Joe White is synonymous with Classic Yacht sailing both on his home waters in Melbourne as well as Sydney through his numerous campaigns in his beloved Acrospire yachts for the prestigious inter-colonial Sayonara Cup, once considered the championship of Australia for big boat racing. He was also commodore of the St.kilda Sailing Club, now the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, where he campaigned with great success his Tumlaren Yvonne, considered the most successful Tumlaren on Port Phillip.
Upon his death a philanthropic trust was established to ensure that his name and ability to contribute to the community would continue on.
This year is a triple treat of celebrations being the 20th running of the Cup Regatta, the 30th year since the formation of the Classic Yacht Association of Australia and the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (formerly St. Kilda Yacht Club) who will be the host of the Cup Regatta in 2026.
As a treat a special event is to be held on November 8 at RMYS, the Joe White Recognition Sail Past All of the remaining boats commissioned by Joe White are reuniting for what must be the first time. Acropire II (Albert Park Yacht Club), Acrospire III (RMYS), Acrospire IV (SASC), and the Tumlaren Yvonne (RYCV) will all parade off the St.Kilda breakwater in what should be a spectacular occasion.
