Roger Richards launched Stardust in January 1976. Mal Hunt purchased her four years later. One night
after dinner, Mal mentioned he might be selling his boat. Four days later I purchased Stardust… without a
survey or sea trial. Why? Because with Stardust, it was love at first sight. She’s Mal’s boat (He is my mate.
Has Master IV Certificate. Has owned Stardust for 42 years.). What would I learn from a survey or sea trial?
Yes, there have been many surprises… all good.
Mal sailed Stardust around Tasmania, up to the Gold Coast every year for ten years, to the Solomon Islands
and Fiji, and through a cyclone. He raced cruising class at Hamilton Island and Whitsunday. Yes, there a
trophy at RYCT to prove it.
She sails under the burgees of The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Cruising Yacht Club of Tasmania,
Kettering Yacht Club, and Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club.
