We have been advised of the imminent and sad news that the Melbourne based Knud Reimers designed Stor Tumlaren (large Tumlaren) or Albatross “Blue Jacket” (1946) is facing a dire future with the possibility of being cut up a real proposition.
Sitting on the hard at Royals (RYCV) the hardstand fees and restoration costs have become too much for the current owner and he is open to a new custodian taking on ownership of the yacht for free.
Blue Jacket was the yacht of former longstanding CYAA member and supporter Doug Jenkings (dec) and to see her lost would be a terrible shame.
She is in fairly good condition. To return her to pristine racing or cruising condition would not take too much effort and the rewards could be immeasurable.
It is imperative that this yacht is not lost for all time. If you are looking to enter the world of classic yacht sailing then Blue Jacket may be the right jacket to go with those pants.
