29-30 March, 2025 – Melbourne
Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS) will again host the Tumlaren State Championship in March this year.
First introduced to the waters of Port Philip in 1937 only four years after being designed by Knud Reimers in Stockholm, the Tumlaren was chosen as a one-design class by a committee from the then Royal St.Kilda Yacht Club looking to stimulate the club’s activities along with the Royal South Australian Yacht Club (also seeking a one-design yacht). The Tumlaren was seen as affordable easily sailed by a small crew and able to handle the conditions of “the Bay”.
The State Championship was held annually from 1938-1997, before being re-introduced as a biennial event in 2017. With a growing fleet the 2025 rendition promises keen and competitive racing, along with warm and convivial atmosphere off the water.
