Joe White Bequest

The committee of the CYAA is proud to welcome the support of the Joe White Bequest for the Cup Regatta in 2024.

Joe White is a name synonymous with Yachting in Australia in particular Victoria. From beginnings on Lake Wendouree in Ballarat he would go on to commission renowned designer Charlie Peel to produce designs for a succession of Acrospires that would compete, unsuccessfully, for the Sayonara Cup in 1928, 1930 and 1931.

He was a long serving Commodore of the St. Kilda Yacht Club, which was to have a name change to the Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron (RMYS).

The Joe White Bequest was formed in 1959 following Joe White’s passing. Much of his vast malting estate was left in trust to provide distributions to Victorian hospitals and other benevolent institutions.

The greatly appreciated donation to the CYAA for the 2024 Cup Regatta will see new Joe White Bequest trophies be  struck to recognize the restoration and maintenance of classic yachts and boats.
