History
FRANCES is an International 8 metre class yacht designed and built by Ernest Digby in Melbourne Victoria in 1948 for racing in the prestigious interstate challenge event for the Sayonara Cup.
It is one of a small number of International 8 Metre Class yachts designed and built in Australia. Most of the Australian yachts in this class were designed by European designers and two were imported.
FRANCES defended the cup in 1951 and 1952, won it back in 1954 after losing the challenge in 1953, then lost it again in 1955.
