Classic Vic 2021 Winter Series wrap up

Race 5 Cancelled

While our last race of a short winter series has been lost what we did have four races with consistent numbers to show our classic yacht racing ethos is going strong.

A consistent fleet of some fourteen boats took in the great sailing conditions Port Phillip waters put on for each race., three at RMYS and a pursuit start at RYCV.

A view of the conditions provided by Port Phillip can be seen at this link to a series of Race three photo’s provided to us by Mark Chew and Jane Williamson.

Aggregate result for the 2021 Winter Series

The aggregate decision was all down to the last race. It was to be a closely watched down to the wire pursuits race affair to see if Boambillee would be able to put two boats between herself and Kingurra. What role would the Race 5 fleet and their co-starters Mercedes III and Acrospire III play in that mad dash to the pursuit race finish line was the question of the day.

As we now know Race 5 had to be put aside. Sorting out the unfortunate Covid-19 situation takes precedence over a yacht race. Classic yachts can race another day, not so for some people who had no say in their untimely demise.

2021 Winter Series Wrap up

In the series wrap while it’s well deserved congratulations to Ian Macfarlane and his Kingurra crew for their winter series take out, congratulation must as well go across the winter series fleet. Congratulations must also go to our series runner up Boambillee and Mercedes III. Yes, that last race was to be some race.

Our Tumlaren Avain who came home a credible series aggregate fourth took out the best performing Tumlaren of the Series. Avian Skipper Roger Dundas and his crew of Martin Delves and Charles Pizzey were sure working on a race and series podium placing.
